Using 3M Industrial Double-Sided Tape on Metal Labels

Drilling holes isn't always a possible or desired solution for mounting every metal label. On sensitive surfaces, thin-bodied plastic parts, or pressurized lines where drilling would be risky, industrial double-sided adhesive tape mounting offers a practical and strong alternative.

Why Industrial 3M Tape Instead of Standard Adhesive?

Store-bought double-sided tapes can quickly lose their grip under temperature changes and on oily surfaces. The industrial 3M VHB (Very High Bond) series tapes we use, however, are designed to form a nearly permanent bond between metal surfaces; when properly applied, trying to remove the label usually leaves a mark on the surface.

• Vibration Dampening: Acting as a thin flexible layer, the tape reduces the risk of micro-cracking on the label caused by machine vibration.

Why Is Surface Preparation Critical for Correct Application?

3M tape's performance largely depends on the cleanliness of the application surface. Before mounting, oil, dust and moisture should be cleaned off with isopropyl alcohol, and once the tape is applied, extra pressure should be avoided for at least 24-72 hours while it reaches full bonding strength. Rivet or Tape? Which One, When?

In locations with constant vibration and high mechanical stress (e.g. heavy vehicle chassis plates), rivet mounting is safer. On flat, clean surfaces where aesthetics come first, 3M tape is both faster and leaves no drill marks on the surface.

How Long Does the Tape Last?

Correctly applied industrial 3M tape can remain unremoved indoors for the product's entire service life. Outdoors, its performance may gradually decrease slightly depending on sun and temperature variation.

For critical, constantly vibrating applications, we recommend not using tape alone but combining it with rivets. This combination provides the highest level of security.
