Every machine placed on the market in Turkey and the European Union is required to carry a permanent identification plate (nameplate) under the Machinery Safety Directive (2006/42/EC). This nameplate is a legal document proving the machine's identity during inspections and potential accident investigations; it is therefore not an aesthetic detail but a compliance requirement.

Legally Required Information on a Machine Nameplate

  • Manufacturer's name and full address
  • Machine model and type description
  • Serial number (if applicable)
  • Year of manufacture
  • CE mark (if a declaration of conformity has been issued)
  • Basic technical data such as power, voltage and weight, where required

Since this information must remain fully legible even years later, it is critical that the text on the nameplate can never fade under any circumstances.

Why Choose Acid Etching or Laser Engraving?

A machine nameplate is exposed to oil, chips, cleaning chemicals and constant hand contact on the production line. Standard labels can become illegible quickly in this environment, which can make your machine look non-compliant during an inspection. Nameplates produced with acid etching or laser engraving eliminate this risk because the information is physically engraved into the metal.

How Are Variable Serial Numbers Printed?

Fixed information (company name, CE logo, technical data) is prepared in advance with acid etching for bulk production. Variable data that changes on each machine, such as serial numbers, can be processed instantly on the production line with a sequential numbering press or fiber laser. This lets series-manufacturing machine builders produce thousands of differently numbered nameplates from a single template.

Mounting Method

Nameplates are usually fixed with rivet or screw holes at the corners; industrial 3M double-sided tape can be used on flat surfaces. We determine the most suitable mounting method together with you before production, based on the shape of the machine body.

A Common Mistake in Inspections

The most common issue seen in inspections is missing or illegible nameplate information. Some companies produce the nameplate afterward with regular paint. This paint fades within a few years and the information is lost.

To completely eliminate this risk, we recommend preparing the nameplate with a permanent method at the very first stage of production. This way your machine is always ready for inspection throughout its service life.
